Ribon (りぼん () ) is a shojo manga magazine published by Shueisha. The magazine published its first issue in August 1955. Ribon is published monthly and its target audience is young girls around 9–13 years old. Its rivals are Kodansha's Nakayoshi and Shogakukan's Ciao.

"Short-Tempered Melancholic" was Arina Tanemura's first work in Ribon.[1] Later that year, her first series I.O.N ran for six months.[2] Tanemura went on to publish Phantom Thief Jeanne, Time Stranger Kyoko, Full Moon o Sagashite,[3] The Gentlemen's Alliance Cross, and Mistress Fortune in Ribon.[4] Sakura Hime: The Legend of Princess Sakura was Tanemura's last series in the magazine.[5]

History[]

Arina Tanemura debuted in Ribon Original, a sister magazine to Ribon,[6] with "The Style of the Second Love" in June 1996.[7] She published "Short-Tempered Melancholic", her first story for Ribon, in February 1997.[1] Her first series I.O.N ran in Ribon for six months in late 1997.[2] The following year, Tanemura launched Phantom Thief Jeanne in the February 1998 issue.[8] She drew her first cover image for the June 1998 issue of Ribon.[9]

In September 2000, she released her next manga, Time Stranger Kyoko, which ran for a year in the magazine. Tanemura's following series, Full Moon o Sagashite was serialized from January 2002 to June 2004. The Gentlemen's Alliance Cross began shortly after, running in the magazine until July 2008. Tanemura published the first chapter of Mistress Fortune in the same issue as The Gentlemen's Alliance Cross ended. Mistress Fortune went on for two more chapters, before ending in September 2008. Tanemura published her longest yet, titled Sakura Hime: The Legend of Princess Sakura from January 2009 to January 2013 in Ribon.

Sakura Hime was Tanemura's last series in Ribon, after she became a freelance artist in 2011.[10] She has since worked in another Shueisha magazine, Margaret.
